Gray Nicolls News Report (Nov 2011)

Posted: 11/9/2011

Zimbabwe Captain Brendan Taylor nearly took his side to victory in the one off Test Match with New Zealand at the weekend with a magnificent 117. Taylor’s side fell 34 runs short in a fantastic run chase. Since becoming captain, Taylors’ form has been superb having passed 100 five times this year in all International Cricket.

Elsewhere, Shiv Chanderpaul scored his 23rd Test Match century with 118 against India.  Chanderpaul’s century included seven boundaries and two sixes, which together with Kraigg Brathwaite’s 63, put the West Indies in a strong position in the early stages of the match.  Both Chanderpaul and Brathwaite endorse the Gray-Nicolls Predator helmet and all three players choose the Gray-Nicolls Quantum range of footwear.

Gray-Nicolls are also pleased to announce the signing of England Women’s all-rounder Laura Marsh and re-signing of Northamptonshire opening batsman Stephen Peters.

Marsh, who has just returned from South Africa, visited our Robertsbridge factory this week to collect her new bats in preparation for her tour to New Zealand in January. “It’s great to have signed with Gray-Nicolls. Their bats and equipment are of the highest quality and I’m excited to be part of the team”.

Peters, Gray-Nicolls longest serving player in the UK with a relationship spanning over 20 years, has scored over 11,000 First Class runs including 27 centuries, the last being a career best 222 against Glamorgan this summer. Stephen said: “It’s fantastic to extend my contract again with Gray-Nicolls, and to continue our long partnership. It’s great to use the best and most reliable kit out there.”

Chris Nash, the 28-year-old top-order batsman, has signed a new one-year extension to his contract with Sussex that will see him stay with the county till at least the end of the 2014 season. Nash, who only cemented his place in the Sussex side in 2007, scored 928 runs at an average of 33.14 in the Championship last season, 25.76 in the Friends Life t20 and 649 runs at 72.11 in the Clydesdale Bank 40, for which he won the Professional Cricketer's Association CB40 Player-of-the-Year award. His performances in the limited-over formats earned him a call-up to the England Lions squads and he played three 50-over matches for them against Sri Lanka A in August. He has also been working on bowling his off spinners and took 26 wickets across formats last season. Nash scored more than 1000 runs in the Championship in both the 2009 and 2010 seasons
